KASESE – Police in Kasese District have apprehended a self-proclaimed Royal Guard for assaulting two senior police officers affiliated with Kasese Central Police Station.
As per the official police statement, Maate Kathindu, hailing from Bunyangabu District, stands accused of unlawfully injuring two senior police officers, whose identities are being kept confidential for security reasons.
The victims are presently undergoing treatment at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kasese Municipality.
Kathindu, a 27-year-old resident of Mabure Village in Kyamukube trading center, Bunyangabu District, allegedly committed the assault during the 57th Anniversary celebrations of His Majesty Charles Wesley Mumbere Irema-Ngoma, the king of Rwenzururu, held at Golf Course Club Kasese in Kasese District.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the spokesperson for Rwenzori East Region Police, confirmed the arrest through SD Ref: 21/19/10/23. Tumushime stated that upon the conclusion of investigations, Kathindu will be presented in court to face charges accordingly.

The chief guest at the event was Rtd Maj Jessica Arupo, the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda. The ceremony was also attended by ministers such as Hon Chris Baryomunsi, Hon Kabyanga Godfrey, Hon Peace Mutuzo, and area Members of Parliament from both Kasese and other regions.
