Police in Kisoro District have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Emmanuel Nzabara, a taxi driver and resident of Bunagana Town Council.
The suspects have been identified as Vasta Nyamagyere, 55, the wife of the deceased, and Innocent Maniragaba, his son, who reportedly travelled from Kampala and engaged in a physical fight with his father.
According to police, Nzabara had been experiencing domestic disputes with Nyamagyere. On Thursday, he rented out a kiosk without informing her. In protest, Nyamagyere locked the kiosk with a padlock, sparking further tension within the family.
On Friday, Maniragaba travelled from Kampala to Bunagana and confronted his father over the matter. The altercation, which took place inside Nyamagyere’s house, allegedly left Nzabara with serious head injuries.
He was rushed to Mutolere Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead at around 3:00 a.m.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said police were notified, and the case was registered at Bunagana Police Station. The crime scene was visited, processed, and documented; statements were recorded from witnesses, and a postmortem was conducted at Mutolere Hospital before the body was handed over to relatives for burial.
Maate warned the public against resorting to violence to resolve disputes, noting that such actions often lead to tragic consequences.
