Atuhaire was apprehended by locals as she tried to flee the scene. She was beaten severely but was rescued by the police, who rushed her to Ishongororo Health Center IV for treatment. However, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

He added that no arrests have been made concerning the mob action, but inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
