A 29-year-old woman is nursing serious injuries after she survived a brutal machete attack by three suspected assailants in Kidodo Cell, Kasese Municipality, on Thursday.

The survivor has been identified as Maureen Mastika, a resident of Kasese Municipality, who is currently receiving treatment at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital after sustaining injuries during the attack.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Mastika said she was being transported home on a boda boda when three energetic young men armed with machetes ambushed them at a road corner near Glorious Nursery and Primary School in Kidodo Cell.

She said the attackers threatened to rape and kill her, although they did not state what they wanted from her in exchange for sparing her life.

According to Mastika, she and the boda boda rider fought back in an attempt to defend themselves. During the struggle, one of the attackers pulled a panga from a bag and attempted to strike her on the head. She narrowly escaped death, but the blow severed part of her ear.
