KABALE: A total of 53 herds of cattle and 84 goats have been slaughtered at Kabale Main Abattoir in Kabale Municipality as part of Easter celebrations.

According to Jackson Nasiima Rwaniika, the tenderer, the number of animals slaughtered from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm yesterday exceeded that of the previous Easter, which saw 45 herds of cattle and 43 goats slaughtered.

Nasiima explained that although they anticipated slaughtering more cattle, livestock quarantine in some regions due to foot and mouth disease hindered the supply. This shortage in supply has also contributed to a rise in the price of cattle and beef.
