KISORO – The Member of Parliament for Bukimbiri County, Hon. Eddy Kwizera Wagahungu, has petitioned to three government ministries addressing service delivery concerns in Kisoro District.

The ministries in question are the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Works and Transport, and Ministry of Public Service. Hon. Kwizera is seeking their attention on three specific issues: the provision of an ambulance to Rubuguri Health Centre IV, the expansion and improvement of Nyakabande Airstrip, and the outstanding unpaid pensions for Kisoro district pensioners.

In his letter to the Ministry of Health, Hon. Kwizera underscored the vulnerability of Bukimbiri County, which lacks a functional ambulance despite having three town councils and four sub-counties. He pointed out an error in the recent distribution of ambulances, emphasizing that each county should have a Health Center IV equipped with an ambulance, theatre, and doctors. Expressing concern over the potential inefficiency of recently distributed ambulances due to insufficient performance funds and management structures, he disclosed that the ministry has assured the provision of an ambulance to Rubuguri Health Centre IV by February of the following year. Additionally, he revealed that the Permanent Secretary acknowledged political interference, and the Minister of Health is expected to present a report to parliament on the matter.

Turning to the Nyakabande Airstrip, Hon. Kwizera disclosed that, following his petition, he learned that six billion shillings had been allocated for its expansion and improvement in the current financial year. However, part of the funds had been diverted, despite the presence of contractors. He further informed that he has tasked the Civil Aviation Authority to provide the land title for Nyakabande Airstrip so that the district leaders can ascertain its exact boundaries.
