KISORO: Bukimbiri United Bodaboda Operators (BUBO) have been urged to pool resources and acquire land for the construction of permanent offices. The call was made by Mugabe Robert, the chairperson of BUBO, during a meeting at Rubuguri Playground in Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro District.

Robert highlighted that owning property would eliminate the disruptions and challenges associated with renting, ensuring more stability for the association.

“Owning land and constructing an office will secure our future and prevent the problems we face as tenants,” he said.

This precaution, he explained, will help identify individuals in the event of a crime, such as if a rider is found dead after being attacked by a passenger. Boaz also recommended that bodabodas stop operating at night to ensure the safety of both riders and their motorcycles.

In a related event, Kisoro Municipality residents were encouraged to protect the environment. This message was delivered by the town clerk, Ayubu Kisubi Alikwan, during a tree-planting campaign at Rukeribuga Gasasira Ward in Southern Division. Over 60 Prunus Africana (Umwumba) trees were planted on municipal land, with support from Centenary Bank in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mughina.

Alikwan shared that the Rotary Club had requested land for planting trees during the dry season, with assurances that they would be provided a similar opportunity during the rainy season.

Rotary Club of Mughina President Peace Ruzaza praised the Kisoro Municipality leadership for providing land for the initiative and stressed the importance of conserving the environment.

“We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the town’s environmental protection,” Ruzaza stated.
