SOROTI: Police in Soroti City have arrested one of their own for allegedly shooting Soroti City engineer Robert Kairu.
   Kairu was shot on Friday by counter-terrorism officer Christine Alupo, attached to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). He was at Soroti Hyde Park organizing a dinner for the Professional Association of Engineers when he mistakenly drove a vehicle that wasn’t the one he had borrowed.
The car’s owner, a URA tax collector, reported it stolen to Soroti City East Division Police. During the confrontation, Alupo shot Kairu in the buttocks. He was taken to Elgon Hospital in Mbale for surgery and remains hospitalized.
Soroti City Resident Commissioner Peter Pex Paak condemned the officer’s actions, stating Kairu should have been arrested rather than shot, as he had complied with police directives.
