KABALE: The Prime Minister Emeritus of the Republic of Uganda, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, has urged journalists to uphold ethical standards by exercising professionalism and avoiding favors from news sources.
In a congratulatory message to Voice of Kigezi Consultant Trainer and English News Anchor, Justus Tindyebwa, on his belated 80th birthday celebration, Rugunda emphasized the importance of integrity in journalism. He cautioned against accepting inducements from news sources to influence the publication or non-publication of stories.

Rugunda noted that journalists compromised by financial incentives are unable to produce balanced and accurate reports, depriving the public of the information needed for sound decision-making. He warned that such practices not only jeopardize journalists’ safety but also erode the credibility of their media outlets.
As a Special Envoy for Special Duties in the Office of the President, Rugunda praised Tindyebwa for his outstanding contributions to journalism, particularly his efforts in fostering cohesion, unity, and development among Ugandans.

The Head of Public Relations and Spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, Julius Mucunguzi, commended Tindyebwa for his significant contributions to the media industry. Mucunguzi noted that even at his age, Tindyebwa’s voice remains impeccable, authentic, and sharp.
“His example inspired many to pursue journalism, including individuals like Dr. Shaka Ssali,” Mucunguzi said.

Tindyebwa, who turned 80 last Saturday, is among Uganda’s pioneering broadcast journalists. He has had an illustrious career with Radio Uganda, Uganda Television, and currently, Voice of Kigezi Radio in Kabale District.
He has moderated and served as Master of Ceremonies at events featuring all Ugandan Presidents, from Idi Amin, Godfrey Binaisa, and Yusuf Lule to the Military Commission led by Paulo Muwanga, Milton Obote (Obote II), Tito Okello Lutwa, and His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
He began his journalism career in 1967 after completing his studies in India and later served as the Kabale District Information Officer.
