KASESE: The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Commissioner in charge of the Rwenzori sub-region, Saulo Maate, has expressed disappointment with the Kasese District Disaster Management Committee for directing the recently asked victims of the floods and landslides, currently living in temporary camps, to return to their homes.
During a press conference on Monday evening at his office in Rukooki, Mr. Joseph Singoma, the District Disaster Management Focal Person and District Senior Planner, urged the victims to leave the camps and return home, where they would receive assistance.
He stated that his office had compiled a list of victims who would be followed up at their homes in case of any relief from the government and non-governmental organizations.
On Tuesday, Maate addressed the press at the Kasese branch FDC offices, voicing his disappointment with this decision.
He argued that the committee’s suggestion for victims to stay with relatives did not consider the logistics and necessities they would need.
Maate disclosed that the FDC had been working with various NGOs to provide food and non-food items to the victims in the camps.
He now questions how they will locate and support these individuals, given the directive to leave the camps.
