KASESE: The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Commissioner in charge of the Rwenzori sub-region Saulo Maate has urged all political party leaders in Kasese district to mobilize resources and support for those currently living in temporary camps across the district.
Kasese district has been experiencing heavy rains, leading to disastrous mudslides and floods that have destroyed homes and claimed lives.
Maate emphasized that politicians should augment the efforts of various organizations by donating food and non-food items to the affected individuals.
He made these remarks over the weekend during a press conference at the Kasese District FDC Branch Offices in Kasese town.
According to him, the camp residents are suffering because most of their belongings, including crops, were destroyed and buried by the mudslides.
The outspoken FDC leader also appealed to district leaders to quickly resolve issues surrounding the relocation of flood victims encamped at Muhokya. He stressed the need for a permanent settlement to enable these victims to resume their development projects.
However, Maate expressed concerns that the process of resettling the victims at Muhokya might be delayed due to conflicts over the piece of land under discussion.
