GOMBA – Paddy Sserunjonji, also known as Sobi, a self-confessed former leader of Kifeesi, a criminal gang in Kampala has been killed in a tragic incident during a land dispute eviction in Maddu, Gomba.
The Acting Katonga Region Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Karim Majid, confirmed Sobi’s death, revealing that a clash between two groups, armed with sticks, pangas, and spears, occurred on land claimed by both parties.
The disputed land, initially purchased by Kalisa for shs100 million in 2007, became a focal point of conflict when it was discovered that he had bought it from the wrong person and only paid shs20 million.
Another group, identifying as the children and grandchildren of late Paul Kibi, presented land titles, escalating the matter to court.
Allegedly, the opposing group hired individuals from Kisenyi, Kampala, to clear the land, leading to a violent confrontation on Monday, resulting in Sobi’s tragic death.
Sobi gained notoriety in 2017 as the confessed leader of Kifeesi, a gang involved in various criminal activities, including petty theft, armed robberies, and murder. His gang targeted citizens in Kampala and conducted operations such as robbing forex bureaus.
Despite arrests and jail time, Sobi and his gang consistently secured bail, continuing their criminal activities. Reports later surfaced suggesting Sobi’s association with the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) during Col Kaka Bagyenda’s reign.
The Katonga police are actively investigating the incident, seeking additional details, injuries, and the possibility of more casualties.
