RUBANDA, UGANDA: Security operatives in Rubanda District have arrested four suspects believed to be behind a series of highway robberies targeting trucks along the Kabale–Kisoro road.
The suspects were apprehended during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted on Wednesday night by the Uganda Police Force and the UPDF, under the command of Rubanda District Police Commander SP Tumwebaze JB.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the crackdown is part of a broader regional strategy to eliminate highway thuggery across Kigezi.
The suspects have been identified as: Turyamureba Kenneth, 31, Muhwezi Titus, 26, Tayebwa John, 32 and Twakire Agnes, 18.
The operation, conducted in the Hamurwa area, also led to the recovery of significant quantities of marijuana allegedly used by the suspects before staging attacks on motorists.
The four are currently detained at Rubanda Central Police Station and will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.
Maate reiterated Police commitment to ensuring safety along major transport routes and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security teams.
