The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has ordered the immediate release of Colonel James Kasule, who was recently arrested in connection with an alleged gold-related incident in Mubende District.
In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, Gen Muhoozi on Monday said he had been briefed by intelligence officers about Col. Kasule’s arrest and directed that he be released without delay.
He described Col. Kasule as a long-serving and trusted officer, adding that he would personally handle the matter.
Col. Kasule, currently serving as the 2nd Deputy Divisional Commander in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), was arrested on Saturday following reports linking him to the alleged abduction of a gold dealer in Mubende.
Preliminary information indicates that the victim was allegedly coerced into transferring money via mobile money. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Security sources confirmed that a military vehicle assigned to Col. Kasule was found at the scene, raising concerns over the possible misuse of military resources.
Col. Kasule is currently detained at Makindye Military Barracks as investigations continue.
