KAMPALA: Fred Nyanzi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) Head of Mobilization, has reportedly been abducted, according to Party President Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi.
Kyagulanyi, in a post on his X handle, stated that Nyanzi was seized at gunpoint by heavily armed men at Kubbiri Roundabout and taken away in a drone to an unknown destination.
“Our comrade and Head of Mobilisation for @NUP_Ug, Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, has been abducted by heavily armed men and taken away in a drone to an unknown destination! He was taken at gunpoint from Kubbiri Roundabout. The criminal regime is on a rampage, BUT WE ARE NOT INTIMIDATED,” Kyagulanyi posted.
Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi also confirmed the abduction, revealing that it happened shortly after Nyanzi had left a meeting at the party headquarters.
“News just in indicates that Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu (Chairman), the NUP Head of Mobilization, has been abducted by gun-wielding men in plain clothes, who drove him off in a drone. We had just finished a meeting at our party headquarters, and he drove off. He was waylaid and pulled out of his car near Kubbiri,” Ssenyonyi posted.
He added, “Our legal team is doing everything possible to trace where he has been taken. The regime is clearly in panic, especially as we intensify efforts to demand the release of all political prisoners.”
