The Vice Rector of St Paul’s Seminary in Kabale District, Rev Fr Kenneth Birungi has asked Christians to embrace peace, strengthen their faith, and remain united in their journey of belief, drawing lessons from the post-resurrection appearance of Jesus to His disciples.

Delivering his Homily during the Second Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church Parish in Kabale Municipality on Sunday, Fr Birungi reflected on how Jesus appeared to His disciples behind locked doors, greeting them with the reassuring words, “Peace be with you,” calming their fear and anxiety following His crucifixion. He noted that this moment remains a powerful reminder that faith can overcome fear even in moments of uncertainty.

He further highlighted the commissioning of the disciples, where Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit upon them, empowering them to continue His mission of forgiveness, reconciliation, and spreading the Gospel. According to him, this act symbolizes divine strength given to believers to carry forward God’s work in the world.

Addressing the lesson of doubt through the encounter with Thomas, Fr Birungi emphasized that Thomas’s hesitation was met not with condemnation but with compassion. This, he said, transformed doubt into one of the most powerful declarations of faith: “My Lord and my God!”

He also underscored the blessing of believing without seeing, noting Jesus’ words that “blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe,” as a message that continues to affirm the faith of believers in the post-ascension era.

The Homily further stressed the importance of community in strengthening faith, pointing out that Thomas missed Jesus’ first appearance because he was not with the other disciples. This, he said, highlights the importance of gathering together in worship and fellowship, where believers can encounter God’s presence.
