KABALE: Kabale District has officially launched the distribution of bean seeds and sustainable land management (SLM) equipment to support 256 former wetland users in Kahungye Sub-county.
This initiative aims to support former wetland users as part of the district’s broader efforts to improve livelihoods and promote environmental sustainability in the Nyombe wetland catchment area.
The distributed tools include 173 hoes, 20 pangas, and 58 forked hoes. These were provided under the Green Climate Fund (GCF) project, with support from the Ministry of Water and Environment and funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The 265 farmers who received the tools are part of a larger initiative targeting 450 former wetland users whose livelihoods previously depended on the Nyombe wetland. Kabale District Secretary for Production and Marketing, Ronald Bagamuhunda, noted that the provision of bean seeds will enhance food security for these farmers, ensuring a stable source of nutrition.
