KABALE: Kabale media practitioners on Friday elected a new representative to the Kabale Municipal Development Forum.
Gideon Tumwijukye, a Journalist at Peak FM Kabale, won the election with 31 votes, defeating Jimmy Emmanuel, a Journalist at Voice of Kigezi, who secured only 3 votes.
The election was presided over by Niwagaba Emmanuel, the Community Development Officer (CDO) for Kabale Municipality, and was held at the Mayor’s Gardens in Kabale Municipal Council.
The hotly contested election brought together media practitioners from various media houses in the district.
Both candidates presented their manifestos, pledging to strengthen collaboration between the media fraternity and the municipal council.
However, Jimmy Emmanuel was absent and was represented by his colleague, Abraham Orishaba, who assured attendees that they would work with the elected representative for the betterment of the media sector.
Several journalists, including Sophan Niwamanya from Peak FM and Arineitwe Julius Emmanuel, congratulated Tumwijukye on his victory.
In his acceptance speech, Tumwijukye expressed gratitude to his fellow journalists for their trust in him and vowed to represent all media practitioners, regardless of their affiliations.
“I’m not going there as Gideon of Peak FM, but as Gideon of the media fraternity,” he said.
