Summary:
- The piglets form part of a larger project initiated by Honorable Atwakiire in 2016, targeting women initially but now extended to include men as well. The project aims to address the root causes of household poverty and promote sustainable economic empowerment within the district.
KABALE: A section of the Men in Kabale District are accusing the government for excluding them in its several Poverty eradication Programs.
Led by Denis Turyatunga, the Village Chairperson of Nyakasa in Kavu parish, Maziiba Sub County, Men express frustration at the exclusion they face, particularly in initiatives such as the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), support for elderly persons, and youth-focused programs among other government led programs.
According to Turyatunga, men have consistently been left out, even in recent efforts like the Parish Development Model Program, which aims to alleviate poverty at the household level. This exclusion, he argues, has had detrimental effects, contributing to rising illiteracy among children as families struggle with unemployment and financial instability.
Turyatunga also highlighted the concerning trends that have emerged as a result, with many men turning to alcohol consumption from morning till night, and youths resorting to criminal activities while girls are pushed into early marriages. He emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to include men in these programs, not only for their own development but also to uplift their families and advance the overall development of the area.

Honorable Atwakiire emphasized the importance of responsible pig farming, urging beneficiaries to refrain from selling the piglets prematurely and instead focus on nurturing them to maturity to enhance household incomes and combat poverty effectively.
