Muslim and political leaders in Kabale District have called for unity, impartial leadership, and issue-based politics ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The call was made on Sunday during a thanksgiving and commissioning ceremony for the residence of the Kabale District Kadhi, held at Masjid Jaamia Kirigime Mosque grounds in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.

Speaking at the function, Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, an executive member of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, urged the Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Maj. Godfrey Katamba, to seek support for President Yoweri Museveni while allowing voters the freedom to choose their preferred leaders at other levels without interference.

Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira, emphasized the need for impartiality among government officials and warned against the politics of religion. She said fair and inclusive politics would promote harmony and enable leaders to work together for the district’s development.

The Kabale District Kadhi, Sheikh Kabu Lule, called for mature and respectful campaigns, urging candidates to focus on presenting their manifestos rather than using rallies to insult opponents. He reminded leaders and voters alike that elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair.

Sheikh Lule further encouraged voters to base their choices on candidates’ capacity, integrity, and track record in service delivery, instead of being swayed by handouts and political deception.

He also appealed to the government to upgrade Kirigime Health Centre III to a Health Centre IV and to support the construction of a theatre at the facility to improve health service delivery.

In response, Ndorwa East Member of Parliament and guest of honor, Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, pledged to present the matter on the floor of Parliament for debate and consideration. He also called upon Muslims to embrace unity and actively participate in development initiatives for the betterment of their communities.
