KABALE: The Kabale District National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) Office has warned individuals masquerading as NIRA personnel and swindling money from citizens in need of NIRA services.
Billy Basulwa, the Registrations Officer at the Kabale district NIRA Office, issued this caution ahead of the second mass enrollment and renewal of National Identification Cards scheduled to commence on June 1 and extend until September 30, 2025. Basulwa revealed that they have apprehended five culprits who have been impersonating NIRA employees and coercing money from unsuspecting individuals. According to Basulwa these impostors typically approach people in public spaces or even within the office premises, falsely promising expedited services and preferential treatment.
Basulwa vehemently stressed that NIRA services come at no cost and any payments required should be directly remitted to designated bank accounts. He clarified that his office comprises only three staff members and reiterated that NIRA services are exclusively rendered at authorized NIRA offices and designated registration centers.
