According to police, the two were previously married and had children together before separating. Ngambeki later moved to Kebisoni in Rukungiri District, where he married another wife, leaving Dinavance at their former marital home in Kanungu, where she has been living with her grandchild.

On the day of the incident, Ngambeki reportedly travelled to Kanungu with his second wife and left her at Kibimbiri Trading Centre before proceeding alone to his former home to check on his ex-wife.

Police says that on arrival, a serious fight broke out between the two behind the house, during which both sustained severe injuries. Ngambeki is said to have died on the spot as a result of the injuries.

After realizing that Ngambeki had died, Dinavance allegedly called their son-in-law, identified as Benon, asking him to pick up his child. When Benon arrived, he found his father-in-law lying dead near the back door of the house.

He raised an alarm, drawing the attention of neighbours, who responded and apprehended the suspect as she reportedly attempted to flee.

Police were notified and responded to the scene, re-arresting the suspect from the residents. Crime scene officers visited, examined and documented the scene, recorded statements from key witnesses, and recovered clothes suspected to belong to the deceased from a pit latrine behind the house. The body had reportedly been cleaned and dressed in different clothes.
