The incumbent Rubirizi District LCV Chairperson, Agubashongorera Sylvester, who had been nominated as an independent candidate, has withdrawn from the race.

His decision followed a reconciliation meeting chaired by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, on Monday.

The meeting, attended by NRM Party structures and graced by Rtd. Lt. Moses Mushabe, Chairperson of the NRM Veterans League, aimed to resolve internal party misunderstandings.

Tayebwa said several groups that had disagreed during the NRM primaries were successfully reconciled. He also expressed appreciation to Agubashongorera for stepping down and supporting the official NRM flag bearer.

“His humility and commitment to the party’s cohesion are commendable,” Tayebwa said, adding that similar engagements with NRM independents will continue.

“Through honest dialogue, we want them to know that the party holds them in high regard and that unity is our greatest strength,” he said.

Tayebwa also highlighted strategies to boost voter turnout, noting that Rubirizi had one of the lowest participation rates in 2021. “Although the President received over 90% of the votes, the overall turnout was low. This time, we are determined to consolidate support while significantly increasing voter participation. We are ready,” he said.
