KASESE: The Muslim Community in Kasese district has issued a strong statement, threatening to boycott the upcoming 2026 General Elections unless their concerns about government services are addressed by current leaders.
The declaration came on Monday at the closer of a one-day workshop for women leaders (AMIRAT) held at Kisanga Main Mosque in Kasese town.
Fauza Mbusa Kihuta, Secretary for Religious Affairs at the Office of the District Khadhi, highlighted that the Muslim community feels consistently neglected in terms of government service provision. He pointed out the disparity, noting that unlike leaders of other religions, none have advocated for vehicles for Muslim leaders, a grievance that underscores their decision to consider abstaining from the elections.
Mbusa also drew attention to the deteriorating state of the Kikorongo – Mpondwe road as evidence of inadequate advocacy efforts by current leaders.
In response, Naswibu Musenene, Kasese District Secretary for the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, supported Mr. Mbusa’s concerns, expressing disappointment in leaders for their lack of involvement in Muslim community affairs and advocacy.
Musenene called for unity within the Muslim Community, urging them to lead by example through maintaining discipline and rejecting discrimination.
