KATAKWI: Local leaders in Katakwi District are urging the Ministry of Local Government to expedite the construction of headquarters for the seven newly created sub-counties, which are currently struggling with rental challenges.

Most of these sub-counties, including Akoboi, operate from rented premises, while others, such as Getom, are using buildings initially designated for veterinary services under the resilience project.

Sub-counties like Amusia, Angodingod, Okoore, Okulonyo, and Guyaguya also lack proper office structures, forcing them to work under difficult conditions.

He emphasized that since these sub-counties were established in 2018 to bring services closer to the people, the absence of office structures has hindered efficiency, including proper record-keeping and administrative operations.

Geoffrey Omolo, the LC5 Chairperson of Katakwi District, echoed these concerns, urging the Ministry of Local Government to prioritize the construction of administrative blocks to support the new sub-counties.

In response, Raphael Magyezi, the Minister of Local Government, assured that once the budget is approved by Parliament, the construction of office structures for the new administrative units will commence.
