KATAKWI: The Katakwi District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman, John Richard Edeket, has publicly declared his full support for Vice President Rtd. Maj. Jessica Rose Alupo Epel, who also serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Katakwi, in the upcoming elections.
Edeket made the announcement on November 18, 2024, during President Yoweri Museveni’s three-day visit to the Teso sub-region to promote the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga wealth creation programs.
Expressing his support, Edeket emphasized his desire to align with leaders committed to progress and unity, distancing himself from divisive politics that hinder development and create conflict in Katakwi District.
“I can’t stand outside the circles of development. I am a wise person, and no one should fight the Vice President,” Edeket stated.
He pledged to actively mobilize support for Alupo, citing visible developmental strides in Katakwi and the Teso region under her leadership.
Edeket has previously supported other prominent politicians, including former Woman MP Viola Akurut Adome and Ngariam County MP Hon. Peter Ogwang, the State Minister for Education and Sports.
In addition, Lawrence Lambert Etukoit, a key politician from Adungulu Village in Okore Sub-County, has called for peace and unity to foster development in Katakwi District.
Meanwhile, Steven Ilemukorit Okure, the former Katakwi LC5 Chairman and long-serving NRM mobilizer, revealed that 84 NRM supporters from outside government institutions have pledged their commitment to mobilize for the re-election of President Museveni and Vice President Alupo.
According to Okure, these mobilizers drawn from the three counties of Ngariam, Usuk, and Toroma are working tirelessly on the ground to ensure the two leaders retain their positions.
Vice President Alupo commended the efforts of the NRM mobilizers and encouraged them to continue supporting President Museveni.
She also called for peaceful, mature, and issue-based campaigns focused on development rather than blame or divisiveness.
