KATAKWI: The former chairman LCV Katakwi district Hon Walter Okiring Elakas has asked the youth of Katakwi district to embrace on saving skills if they want to eradicate poverty.
Elakas made this while speaking as guest of honor over the weekend during a getaway party of the enumerators and supervisor of UBOs Akoboi Sub County in Petua gardens in Katakwi town council.
According to the Elakas, the only way of removing poverty from Uganda is by forming groups and SACCO’s in villages.
“if we can accept unity and follow the saving skills we shall see the young generation far front on fighting poverty in Uganda as country” Elakas said.
Emmanuel Olinga one of members of Akoboi SACCO as well as supervisor thanked commissioner of UBOS for the support during the enumeration exercise
He asked the fellow members of the SACCO to be active and attentive as they enter the hard time of saving.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Ariong, commissioner UBOS Katakwi district, in his remarks appreciated all the enumerators and supervisors for the hard work during 2024 National population census.
He urged other enumerators and supervisors to emulate from Akoboi sub county so that they change their livelihood in Teso sub region.
“In Census 2024 Katakwi as a district has done well compared with other districts which shows that we did a good job as stated by our main office in Kampala” Ariong said.
In exclusive interviews with this publication, Geoffrey Omolo the chairman of Katakwi district, also said the issue of saving is moral as one way of eradicating poverty in Uganda.
He however appealed to the youth to desist from bad acts and asked them to start saving slowly not until they activate the main goal in life.
Daniel Mulalu who pulled one million shillings for supporting the start-up SACCO, when called by our reporter said his target is to see that all people of Ngariam County can get change through his slogan KAZI NI KAZI.
Mulalu in his speech assured the people of Ngariam County, Katakwi and Teso of great development.
