Kisoro Couple Killed in Road Crash Laid to Rest, Four Children Orphaned

The couple, who had been married since 2011, are survived by four young children.

Grief engulfed Mubuga village, Gitenderi Parish in Nyarusiza Subcounty, Kisoro District, on Sunday as hundreds gathered to bury a couple killed in a fatal road crash along the Kisoro–Kabale highway.

The deceased, Sebahinzi Keneth (40) and his wife Sylvia Ntiringanya (38), died instantly on Friday evening after their motorcycle collided head-on with a Mercedes Benz semi-trailer belonging to East African Roadways. The accident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. opposite Airland Hotel in Nyakabande Subcounty.

The couple, who had been married since 2011, are survived by four young children. Their funeral service at Gitenderi Church of Uganda under Kabindi Archdeaconry was marked by emotional scenes as mourners broke down, worried about the future of the orphans.

Harbert Sebakire, the elder brother of the late Keneth described the pair as devoted and peace-loving.

Local leaders who attended the burial pledged support for the children. Erasmus Nsabimana, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyarusiza Subcounty, urged residents to remain united in the wake of the tragedy, while Nfitumukiza Johns, LC5 Councilor for Nyarusiza, revealed that efforts are underway to secure compensation from the transport company through its insurance provider.

Martin Hakizimana, LC5 Councilor for Muramba Sub County, representing Bufumbira South MP, also pledged to sponsor two of the children through school, assuring the family that the orphans would not be abandoned.

Leading the service, Rev. Musabimana Benard of Gitenderi Parish urged the community to rally behind the orphans. He cautioned mourners against attributing deaths to witchcraft, reminding them that death is part of God’s plan.
