The Kisoro District Chief Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 30-year-old man to 3 years and 6 months in Kisoro Prison after he pleaded guilty to attempted rape.
The convict, identified as Didas Atuheire, is a resident of Kashenyi Cell, Nyanamo Town Council in Bukimbiri County, Kisoro District. He was charged with attempting to rape a woman on May 9, 2025, in the same area.
The case, presided over by His Worship Kenneth Komakech, was presented by State Attorney Christopher Ayinomugisha on Wednesday who emphasized that attempted rape is a serious crime that warrants a severe punishment, even a death sentence, as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar acts.
Atuheire pleaded guilty to the charge. His defense lawyer, Nicolas Kubalinini, pleaded for a lenient sentence, citing his client’s cooperation with authorities and the fact that he did not waste the court’s time by opting for a full trial.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Komakech sentenced Atuheire to 3 years and 6 months in prison.
