KISORO: The number of motorists applying for driving permits in Kisoro district has surged following a four-day ultimatum issued by security operatives in collaboration with the Uganda Driving Schools and Operators Association. The ultimatum aimed to encourage motorists to acquire valid permits.
On January 15, 2024, more than 20 motorcycles and trucks were impounded by police in Kisoro for lacking valid permits. The operation, led by Officer in Charge of Traffic, Michael Kushaba, took place in the municipality and coincided with the ongoing Uganda Driver Licensing System (UDLS) mobile enrolment at the Kisoro District Local Government headquarters.
The mobile enrolment, which began on Monday, January 13, 2025, is set to close on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Services offered include processing, renewing, extending classes, and issuing driving licenses.
Abel Kanyankore, the National Chairman of the Uganda Driving Schools and the Director of Wendi Driving School, shared that the number of motorists applying for driving licenses has increased from approximately 300 to 550, with the number of motorcycle riders registering for permits rising from 15 to 32.
Kanyankore urged motorists to take advantage of this opportunity for permit registration and licensing, highlighting that doing so within the district saves costs.

Baker Batamukoraho, the General Secretary of Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators, also encouraged boda boda riders to register for rider permits, calling it an essential step toward adhering to the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Works and Transport.
