KISORO: Tensions have flared in Nyundo Sub-county, Kisoro District, as residents express frustration over what they describe as unequal service delivery by the District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Grace Akifeza Ngabirano.

The public outcry follows Hon. Akifeza’s recent donation of 250 hospital beds and mattresses to various health centers across Kisoro District, a contribution she secured through lobbying efforts with the Ministry of Health. While the donation was broadly welcomed, Nyundo Sub-county received no allocations, prompting accusations of neglect and political bias.

Leading the criticism is Fred Mutambuzi, the LCIII Chairperson of Nyundo Sub-county. He voiced deep concern over what he described as the total exclusion of his area from the initiative. Mutambuzi questioned the criteria used in the distribution of the medical supplies and accused the MP of deliberately sidelining Nyundo, possibly due to undisclosed political motivations.

“Such disparities in the allocation of healthcare resources risk undermining service delivery and eroding public trust in leadership,” Mutambuzi warned.

In response, Hon. Grace Akifeza Ngabirano acknowledged the concerns raised and clarified that a recent feasibility assessment had been conducted at Nyundo Health Centre III. She assured residents that plans are underway to improve healthcare services in the sub-county and pledged to continue lobbying for additional support.

“I understand the frustrations. We have carried out assessments, and Nyundo is part of our long-term strategy. I ask residents to remain patient as we work to improve services across the district,” she said.
