Independent candidate Micheal Kwarikunda Mbareba has rejected the results of the Rukiga District LC5 election, alleging widespread irregularities during the polling process.

Kwarikunda lost to the NRM flag bearer Simon Mutebi Rwamagyenda with 17,878 votes and Rwamagyenda garnered 21,028 votes.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday at Apo Hotel in Muhanga Town Council, Kwarikunda claimed the election was marred by violence, bribery, voter intimidation, alternating of Declaration forms and Multiple voting which he said undermined the credibility of the outcome.

He alleged that several of his polling agents in Kamwezi Sub- County were assaulted and are currently receiving treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Kwarikunda further claimed that some of his campaign vehicles were vandalized and mobile phones stolen during the election period.
