Tensions are mounting within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Labwor County, Abim District, as four parliamentary aspirants have lodged a formal complaint against the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Jimbricky Norman Ochero, accusing him of breaching an agreed joint campaign strategy.
In a letter dated July 6 and addressed to the NRM Electoral Commission, the aspirants, Ogolla Nicholas, Ayepa Michael, Ojwok Patrick, and Okello Richard Burton OKAS, allege that Hon. Ochero held unauthorized parallel campaign meetings on Thursday, July 3; Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5, in defiance of the harmonized campaign schedule agreed upon by all contestants and the party’s electoral committee.
“The incumbent has disregarded the joint campaign strategy and gone ahead with separate meetings, which gives him undue advantage over the rest of us,” the petition reads in part. “This is a clear breach of the guidelines we collectively agreed upon to ensure fairness and cohesion within the party.”
The petitioners are now calling on the NRM Electoral Commission to urgently intervene, restore order, and enforce the agreed rules to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the party primaries.
At the time of this report, the NRM Electoral Commission had not yet publicly responded to the petition.
