KABALE – Over 30 households in Kigongi B cell, Central Division of Kabale municipality are on the brink of an environmental catastrophe, with residents fearing an imminent landslide disaster.
The most severely affected is the family of Japeth Basinguzi, a retired tutor, whose multi-storied house and Banana Plantation is gradually sinking due to the unfolding disaster.
According to Basinguzi the crisis began in July this year when a crack first appeared on his property.
Basinguzi said that they attempted to mitigate the issue by filling it with rocks and soil, but their efforts proved futile as the crack continued to expand, eventually causing the building to sink.
The dire situation has forced them to evacuate tenants from the house, which used to generate over Ushs1.5 million in monthly income for them.
Basinguzi urgently calls upon the government to assess the impending disaster and provide expert guidance.
