Police in Mbarara City have arrested a 27-year-old boda boda rider, Richard Agumaniiwe, a resident of Katojo Cell in Katojo Ward, Mbarara City South Division, for allegedly attempting to murder a senior police officer.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Monday at around 4:00pm at the Kikona–Ruti Town Road junction along the Mbarara–Kabale Road.
SP Ocaya Kennedy, the Officer in Charge of Mbarara City South Division, was on duty clearing the route for President Museveni’s motorcade, which was heading from Rwampara District to Mbarara City for its second campaign rally of the day.
Agumaniiwe, who was riding a Yamaha motorcycle registration number UAC 177Z, was instructed to vacate the road for the presidential convoy. However, he allegedly ignored the command, sped forward, and intentionally knocked SP Ocaya, injuring him.
Police say investigations are underway, and the suspect is currently in custody as inquiries continue.
