KANUNGU: The Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has urged the youth in Kanungu District to use funds from the Parish Development Model (PDM) wisely by investing in development projects that can help alleviate poverty in their families.
Minister Baryomunsi made these remarks on Monday during a meeting with youth council leaders from various sub-counties in Kinkizi East County. The gathering, held at the Kanungu District Hall in Kanungu Town Council, aimed to assess the performance of the PDM and whether young people in the area have been receiving funds from the program.
It was noted during the meeting that some youth in Kinkizi East County had received PDM funds and invested them in productive enterprises, which aligns with the primary objective of the program: to foster wealth creation and shift people from subsistence living to more sustainable livelihoods.
Dr. Baryomunsi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kinkizi East, explained that the government allocated Shs100 million annually to each parish SACCO under the PDM, with youth expected to receive 30% of these funds.
He advised the youth to focus on investing the funds in productive and profitable ventures rather than spending it on alcohol, excessive luxury, or unnecessary pursuits.
Kanungu RDC, Ambrose Mwesigye Amanyire, also encouraged the youth to actively support government programs such as PDM, Emyooga, and other developmental initiatives aimed at combating poverty within families.
