Mob Burns Suspect’s Home and Plantation After Murder in Rukiga

The mob accused Tumwijukye of killing Atwebembere Christopher, also known as Sadam, a resident of the same area who was murdered on April 15, 2025.

An angry mob has set fire to a house and destroyed a banana plantation belonging to Denis Tumwijukye, whom they suspect of murdering a man in Kabishaka Village, Nyakashebeya Parish, Kashambya Sub-county, Rukiga District.

The mob accused Tumwijukye of killing Atwebembere Christopher, also known as Sadam, a resident of the same area who was murdered on April 15, 2025.

Following the incident, Tumwijukye and three others identified as Nasasira Danson, Mwesigwa Alyson, and Turyasima Denis were arrested by police in connection with Atwebembere’s death.

According to police, detectives from Rukiga Police Station visited the crime scene on Friday with the suspects.

During a search of Tumwijukye’s house, opened by his mother, two plastic chairs with bloodstains were recovered.

The search was witnessed by Twinomujuni Francis, the brother of the deceased, and a search certificate was issued.

However, after the police left the scene, relatives of the deceased reportedly attacked Tumwijukye’s home, burning the house and cutting down his banana plantation.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident on Saturday.

He said officers from Rukiga Police Station, along with the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), visited and documented the scene.

Maate also noted that, so far, no arrests have been made regarding the mob attack.
