Kibale County MP Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe has been re-elected chairperson of the Kamwenge District Roads Committee for a third term.

Abigaba was re-elected on Thursday, October 8, 2026, during the committee’s inaugural meeting in Kampala. Speaking to the media on Friday, he applauded members for renewing their trust in his leadership, which he has held since 2016.

Following his re-election, Abigaba unveiled the committee’s five-year work plan, which prioritises opening new roads, maintaining existing ones and constructing bridges to improve connectivity within the district and neighbouring areas.

Abigaba said ministry technical teams were conducting geotechnical studies at the proposed sites ahead of construction.

He expressed optimism that Kamwenge would benefit from the second phases of the Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP II), the Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development programme (UCMID II) and the Climate-Smart Agriculture programme, which are expected to support road infrastructure development.
