The Member of Parliament for Ndorwa East County, Honorable. Wilfred Niwagaba, has urged residents to prioritize cultivating fast-income-generating cash crops instead of planting eucalyptus trees.
MP Niwagaba cited the availability of nearby markets that can readily support the sale of such produce.
MP Niwagaba made these remarks on Sunday while speaking as Guest of Honor at Rubira Catholic Church during the installation of the Blessed Sacrament.
The Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Austen Christmas, the Parish Priest of Rushoroza Cathedral Parish, representing the Bishop of Kabale Diocese.
In his address, MP Niwagaba encouraged especially the youth to avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
He emphasized that steering clear of such habits helps prevent involvement in negative peer groups and urged them to instead participate in income-generating projects that promote sustainable development.
He also reassured residents that the government, in collaboration with the United States government, is working to secure funding for enhanced rural electrification.
He noted that the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) will soon begin installing transformers in areas that have had electricity poles for over two decades without power, as well as extending electricity to communities that have never been connected.
MP Niwagaba announced that he, alongside Kabale District Woman MP Hon. Catheline Ndamira Atwakiire, has secured funds for the permanent reconstruction of the recently damaged Kigata-Kacuro bridge. Construction is expected to begin once the current rainy season ends.
During the Mass, Rev. Fr. Austen Christmas encouraged Christians to grow closer to Jesus Christ, particularly through adoration on Thursdays.
In his homily, he called on the faithful to dedicate time to prayer, remain spiritually connected, and seek Christ’s guidance as the Good Shepherd who offers eternal life and knows each of his followers personally.
He also urged believers to honor the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, bring their needs to Jesus, and remain attentive to his call.
