The Acting Principal Judge, Lady Justice Okuo Jane Kajuga, has officially launched a video conferencing system and a judicial symposium at Mukono High Court.
As part of the day’s proceedings, the Acting Principal Judge inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Uganda Police Force before holding a private meeting with judicial officers. The event was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The launch featured a live video conferencing court session presided over by Lady Justice Jacqueline Mwondha, Resident Judge of Mukono Circuit, held at Kauga Main Prison.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Supreme Court Justice Christopher Madrama, who also serves as Chairperson of the ICT and Documentation Committee. Other key attendees included Lady Justice Rosemary Bareebe, Lady Justice Mary Kaitesi Kisakye (Resident Judges, Mukono High Court), the Acting Chief Registrar HW Pamella Lamunu Ocaya, and Ms. Annet Mpabulungi Wakabi, representing the UNDP Country Representative.
Also present were HW John Paul Odoku (Acting Registrar, Planning, Research and Development), Judiciary Public Relations Officer HW James Ereemye Jumire Mawanda, and Mr. Simon Peter Opolot (Head, Policy and Planning), representing the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary.
The launch drew a large and diverse audience, including advocates, local and religious leaders, and members of the public.
Video conferencing in courts marks a significant step forward in enhancing judicial efficiency and access to justice. It facilitates remote witness testimony, virtual hearings, and participation in proceedings without the logistical burden of physical transfers for detainees or witnesses.
