City lawyer Jackson Tumweboneire has prematurely withdrawn from the race for National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman for Rubanda District after failing to secure a single vote.
Tumweboneire was contesting against Henry Musasizi, the Minister of Finance (General Duties) and Diaz Drake Owoyesigyire, the LC5 Councilor for Hamuhambo Town Council in Rubanda East County.
The election, held at Rubanda Town Council headquarters, saw Tumweboneire walk away from the venue before the NRM registrar could officially announce the results. According to eyewitnesses, he quietly exited after realizing that no delegate had supported his candidacy.
Rubanda District NRM Registrar, Monday Aggrey, later clarified that Tumweboneire was not an official delegate, which rendered him ineligible to receive any votes.
This marks Tumweboneire’s second unsuccessful political attempt, having previously lost the race for Muko Sub-county Publicity Secretary to Everly Musinguzi.
In the final tally, Minister Musasizi was re-elected as NRM Chairman for Rubanda District with a commanding 503 votes. His closest rival, Diaz Drake Owoyesigyire, managed only 43 votes, while Tumweboneire received none, placing third in the race.
