GULU: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has urged Ugandans to embrace President Yoweri Museveni’s message of household income generation and to elect leaders committed to the NRM’s agenda of socio-economic transformation.

Speaking to party members gathered for the NRM Baraza in Obiya Laroo Ward, Gulu City, Todwong highlighted the critical role of electing leaders who can effectively articulate the needs of the people to the government, ensuring improved service delivery and sustainable development.

“It is the responsibility of your leaders to present your issues to the government,” Todwong said. “When you elect opposition leaders, they often struggle to effectively communicate your concerns because they are preoccupied with criticism and confrontation, rather than engaging constructively with government officials who are in a position to address those needs.”

Todwong outlined several government initiatives implemented under the NRM to boost household incomes and promote economic empowerment.

These include the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Programs, all designed to provide families with the necessary tools and resources to improve their livelihoods.

“These programs are aimed at ensuring that every household has the opportunity to thrive economically,” he emphasized.

During the Baraza, Todwong welcomed over 100 former members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who officially defected to the NRM, a move he described as a testament to the party’s growing appeal and commitment to national development.

He also commended NRM members for their active participation in the ongoing membership register update exercise, noting the impressive turnout as a sign of the party’s strong grassroots support.
