The race for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson position in Kisoro District has officially kicked off, with five candidates, including Bufumbira North legislator Hon. John Kamara Nizeyimana, duly nominated ahead of the NRM structures’ elections slated for this Friday.
Joining Hon. Nizeyimana in the contest are:
- Nambajimana Alex, the LCV Vice Chairperson for Kisoro District
- Tugume Joshua, the current NRM Chairperson for Nyanamo Town Council
- Bishubeho Louis, LCV Councilor representing Kirundo Sub-county
- Ndikuyeze Ramadhan, the current Vice Chairman of NRM Kisoro District
In an interview following his nomination, Hon. Nizeyimana revealed that he had withdrawn his earlier intention to contest for the full District Chairperson seat.
This decision, he said, followed a private meeting with current NRM District Chairperson Hon. Dr. Philemon Mateke, who remains unopposed in the upcoming elections.
Nizeyimana emphasized that his decision was made out of respect for Dr. Mateke and in a bid to preserve unity within the NRM party.
He called on the community to support his candidacy for Vice Chairperson and urged collective efforts toward the development of Kisoro District.

Kamara’s opponents, Bishubeho Louis and Ndikuyeze Ramadhan, also shared their visions for the district. Bishubeho emphasized youth empowerment through ideological training in NRM principles, highlighting the fact that youth make up the majority of Uganda’s population.
Ndikuyeze, meanwhile, called for responsible voting, encouraging the electorate to choose leaders based on integrity and commitment to service delivery.
He praised Dr. Mateke for his decade-long leadership and urged against unnecessary competition for the top chairperson seat.
