KAMPALA: The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has demanded that Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), retract his alleged abusive statements directed at PLU chairperson General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The remarks were reportedly made during Kyagulanyi’s rally in Soroti City.

Kyagulanyi is accused of claiming that President Yoweri Museveni and his son, General Kainerugaba, regard Ugandans, including the people of Teso, as “slaves.”

While addressing the media at PLU offices in Naguru, Michael Mawanda, the PLU Director in charge of mobilization and Member of Parliament for Igara East, dismissed the allegations as untrue. Mawanda emphasized that General Kainerugaba has been a dedicated and hardworking individual throughout his life and would never harbor such views.

Mawanda criticized Kyagulanyi’s approach to political discourse, urging him to focus on constructive methods of gaining support rather than targeting individuals who have made significant sacrifices for Uganda’s stability and progress.

“We request our brother and leader of NUP to desist from politics of name-calling or spreading falsehoods about those who don’t share his ideology,” said Mawanda.

He further accused Kyagulanyi of resorting to attacks and insults to stay relevant in the political arena. “Kyagulanyi’s behavior of attacking and disrespecting senior citizens is unacceptable. Ugandans understand where the country has come from, where it is now, and where it is headed.”
