RUKUNGIRI: The Promoters of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) have gathered 1,854 signatures in Rukungiri District as part of their ongoing efforts toward party registration.

On October 2, 2024, the Independent Electoral Commission granted approval for the PFF to begin collecting signatures for the registration process. According to the Commission’s Secretary, Mulekyah R. Leonard, the signature collection is expected to conclude by January 3, 2025.

The Promoters are required to submit a list of at least 50 members from two-thirds of Uganda’s districts. These members must either be registered voters or ordinarily reside in their respective districts. Initially, the target for Rukungiri District was set at 200 signatures.

However, Calleb Musimenta, former administrative secretary for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Rukungiri District, explained that they raised the target to 15,000 signatories to solidify their standing. Musimenta also noted that many FDC supporters are now defecting to the People’s Front for Freedom.
