Police in Mbarara have arrested several individuals involved in violence and public disorder during National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi’s campaign rally.

The arrests targeted people with criminal records, including those who assaulted officers, destroyed government property, and obstructed police duties.

The Uganda Police Force emphasized that while the majority of campaign participants have conducted themselves lawfully, a few individuals have repeatedly provoked law enforcement, leading to serious incidents across the country.

Among reported cases, in Busia District, suspects traveling in a National Unity Platform (NUP) convoy assaulted an officer, leading to a case filed under CRB 1038/2025. On October 3 in Mayuge District, a police officer was attacked, seriously injured, and had his phone stolen during a campaign event (CRB 797/2025).

Other incidents include assaults on officers in Kyankwanzi, vandalism of a police vehicle in Kakumiro, and attacks on officers and journalists in Lira, Alebtong, Abim, and Kiruhura districts.
