Police at Mbare Police Station in Isingiro District have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of agricultural produce (matooke) from the farm of Ahiruhangari Abia, a resident of Kyabahesi Bahingi Cell, Kyabahesi Parish, Mbare Sub-county.
The suspects have been identified as Ruhangariyo Samuel Innocent and Kamukama Alex, alias “Kadogo.” They are accused of stealing six bunches of matooke from the complainant’s plantation.
According to police, the complainant discovered the theft after waking up to inspect her garden and immediately reported the matter to Mbare Police Station, requesting the deployment of sniffer dog services.
A police sniffer dog was deployed at the scene, picked a strong scent trail, and tracked it for about 200 metres, leading officers to the home of Ruhangariyo Samuel Innocent. A search conducted at the premises resulted in the recovery of six bunches of stolen matooke from inside his room.
Ruhangariyo, who is a neighbour to the complainant and a habitual offender, implicated his accomplice, Kamukama Alex, who was subsequently arrested.
Rusoke Kituuma, the spokesperson of the Uganda Police Force, confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing as police prepare the suspects for prosecution.
