KISORO: Police in Kisoro District have expressed concern over adult men above 30 years who continue to rely on their parents for sustenance.
Community liaison officer, IP Arinaitwe Boaz of Kisoro police, highlighted this issue during an interview with our reporter following a tragic incident in Nyagisenyi village, Muganza parish, Chahi sub-county, Kisoro district. Here, a 65-year-old man allegedly killed his 30-year-old son.
The suspect, identified as Ngaruye Benon Singirankabo, resides in Busamba village, Muganza parish, Chahi sub-county, Kisoro district. The victim, Nkurunziza Ronald, was the son of the suspect.
Reports indicate that the deceased returned home intoxicated at 3 am, banging on the doors and demanding food. The family hesitated to open as he often exhibited violent behavior. The deceased forcibly entered their bedroom, prompting a confrontation with his father.
The altercation led to the father pushing his son out of the house, resulting in a fatal fall from a cliff. The father’s criticism of men in their 30s dependent on their parents was noted during the incident.
Arinaitwe Boaz emphasized the importance of parental responsibility in educating their children and urged families to resolve conflicts internally to avoid frequent involvement with the police, which can lead to family breakdowns.
