KAMPALA: Uganda Police has issued a stern warning to Ugandans regarding the assault on leaders, prompted by the recent attack on Buhweju County Member of Parliament, Honorable Francis Mwijukye.
Honorable Mwijukye was assaulted by a group armed with sticks while addressing a land conflict in Nyakishana Sub-county on Sunday.
The conflict stemmed from a complaint lodged by churchgoers at Rwanyamabare Catholic Church and members of Rwamabare Farmers Association, alleging a threat to their church from their neighbor, Kamugisha Frank.
The assault left Honorable Mwijukye with severe head injuries, prompting his transfer to Kampala for further medical treatment.
Uganda Police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga on Monday emphasized that such violence against legislators undermines democracy and vowed to pursue the perpetrators diligently.
