The Director of Legal Room Consultancy, Justus Orishaba Bagamuhunda, has attributed Uganda’s rising unemployment to what he described as a poor mindset among young people.
Bagamuhunda made the remarks on Monday while officiating at the opening of a five-day workshop organized by Legal Room Consultancy at Agaba Centre in Kabale Municipality.
The workshop seeks to help job seekers identify their potential and equip parents with knowledge on how to support their children in choosing careers based on their abilities and interests.
Bagamuhunda said understanding children’s interests and abilities would enable parents to guide them towards careers that can help them become job creators rather than job seekers.
He said many students and graduates focus on passing examinations and obtaining academic transcripts before entering the job market, without adequately understanding how to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire to create opportunities for themselves and others.
Bagamuhunda also said the rising cost of living has left many employees struggling to meet their basic needs, yet some have not explored opportunities to diversify their sources of income.
He urged graduates to change their mindset and pursue education with the aim of creating employment opportunities, saying those who create jobs have the same intellectual capacity as those who seek employment.

Meanwhile, the Project Manager for Legal Room Consultancy in Western Uganda, Barnabas Tugumisirize, said the organization seeks to provide affordable, flexible and quality legal and advisory services to the public.
Tugumisirize said millions of people continue to face injustices arising from disputes over land, family matters and crime.
He identified property-related conflicts and domestic violence among the common challenges affecting communities and said the organisation seeks to provide legal guidance to people facing such challenges.
